Monday: Compassion in Motion at the Revue
Monday, 31 May 2010
Help us kick-off Compassion Week at the Revue Cinema (map here) as we view farm animals through the lens of three short films that witness the lives of animals on display, in captivity and in the care of committed activists. Q & A to follow.

We will screen and discuss three short works exploring i) the Royal Agricultural Fair, ii) the state of battery caged chickens in Canada, and iii) work done by local activists to care for rescued chickens, pigs, goats and other rescued farm animals.

Tickets $8 at the door.

About the films

  • field trip from Karol Orzechowski takes the viewer through a typical day at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair's Education Ring, where thousands of children per year are conditioned to accept a corporate-sponsored and increasingly mechanized system of intensive animal agriculture. The film was shot entirely on location at the Fair over the course of one day of presentations.
  • Canadian Coalition for Farm Animals takes you inside a battery-cage operation. Nongraphic video footage shows small, cramped “battery” cages where chickens are unable to perform natural behaviours.
  • The Toronto Vegetarian Association visits Roosters Inn and Snooters Farm Animal Sanctuary where we meet individuals who have committed their lives to the care of rescued farm animals. Join us on our tour as we meet inspiring people, chickens, pigs and more.

About Compassion Week

This year, the Toronto Vegetarian Association is proud to introduce Compassion Week, an exploration of compassion for animals through discussion, food and the arts. Taking place May 28 through June 6, Compassion Week is our attempt to start a conversation about the role animals play in our lives and to encourage people to explore compassionate alternatives.
