World Vegan Day was on November 1st and it's not hard to find ways to celebrate right now! Toronto has just passed two motions to support animals: a ban on the sale and consumption of shark fin, and to send the Toronto Zoo elephants to a California sanctuary.

Dr. Neal Barnard is also coming to town with a FREE book launch event, and Toronto's social groups continue to be as busy as ever! Plus, it's time for TVA's Annual General Meeting to welcome our 2011-2012 board of directors.

As the cooler weather starts to kick in, it's time to warm up with some Cream of Kale Soup, a nutritional powerhouse to keep you strong and healthy this winter.

Don't Miss These Upcoming Events!

Dr. Neal Barnard presents 21 Day Weight Loss Kick-Start on November 10th and the TVA Annual General Meeting is November 20th. Find out more in the TVA in Action section.

New Year's Eve is just around the corner. How are you going to celebrate in anticipation of ringing in the New Year?

Will it be celebrating the wonderful achievements of local councillor Glen DeBaeremaeker at the Animals Without Borders fundraiser on December 9th? Will it be cooking up a storm with a new vegetarian cookbook you picked up at our Annual Holiday Sale and Open House? Or do you prefer to turn on your oven and get baking in preparation for the 4th Totally Fabulous Vegan Bake-Off?

For those of you who'd prefer to leave the cooking to others, you can still dine in great company at one of the TVA social group dinners this month at Vegetarian Haven or Rawlicious.

But don't worry. If winter ain't your thing and you're simply ready to hibernate, we've got a recipe for a warming Roasted Root Vegetable Soup that you can easily whip up in no time, so you can spend a cozy evening at home.

Don't Miss These Upcoming Events!

The Annual Holiday Book and Bake Sale is happening Saturday, December 10th from 1 to 4 pm at the TVA Resource Centre. Find out more in the TVA in Action section or on Facebook.

It seems that vegetarians are in high demand! We've got word of two people looking for vegetarian roommates, a restaurant hiring a vegetarian chef, and vegans are being asked to sport veg-related t-shirts in honour of Vegan T-Shirt Day on August 6th.

Luckilly, vegetarians shouldn't be hard to find, as there's lots going on promoting a plant-based diet. Gene Baur of Farm Sanctuary is coming to town to give out FREE veggie dogs as part of their 25th anniversary tour and Toronto Pig Save is educating people about the conditions pigs endure on their way to slaughter.

If you're one of those inspired veg*ns, don't miss this month's recipe for Cabbage and Currant Salad or Vegan New York Cheesecake.

Don't Miss These Upcoming Events!

10,000 Tastes, 10 Billion Reasons is happening August 10th, and the Annual Vegetarian Food Festival is September 9th to 11th. Find out more in the TVA in Action section.

Buy your ticket for Gene's talk by Friday, August 5th and you'll be entered into a raffle draw for a gift certificate to a vegetarian restaurant!

September is here! While many people are saddened by the end of summer, vegetarians in and around Toronto (and even as far as New York and beyond!) get excited this time of year because it means the Annual Vegetarian Food Festival has arrived! There's just one week left until the Harbourfront Centre comes alive with over 100 exhibitors, 10 speakers, and 8 chefs celebrating vegetarian cuisine and culture.

That's not the only thing happening this month though. TVA's social groups are very active this fall with dinners, bonfires and more!

If all of this plant-based celebration inspires you, why not learn from Marco, our animal advocacy profile this month, about how you can host a vegan challenge in your work place? Or perhaps encourage your friends and family to attend the upcoming Vegetarianism 101 session?

Or, get involved with some animal activism yourself by giving away veggie dogs outside of one of Toronto's slaughterhouses, or supporting the Animals Asia Fundraiser.

Don't Miss These Upcoming Events!

The 27th Annual Vegetarian Food Festival is happening September 9th to 11th, and Vegetarianism 101 is October 5th. Find out more on Facebook or in the TVA in Action section.

We hope you've got your calendar and a pen handy, because October is full of non-stop events! We've got listings from five TVA social groups, and Veggie Drinks that will all be meeting at different vegetarian restaurants throughout the GTA. Plus, the much respected Vesanto Melina is coming to town at the end of the month, and bringing with her a new book, Cooking Vegetarian. She'll be doing not one, but two completely different talks in Toronto on October 27th and 30th.

We can be proud to invite her to our city this month, as Toronto is moving forward with two great bylaws - banning the sale of shark fin and banning the sale of cats and dogs in pet stores.

Don't Miss These Upcoming Events!

Vesanto Melina presents Raw Food Diets: What's True, What's Not on October 27th and a TVA Eat n' Learn: Vegetarian Nutrition for Superb Health on October 30th. Find out more in the TVA in Action section.

RawliciousLast year, 16 members of the team ran or walked to raise an astounding $7800 for TVA. You can help us surpass that goal this year so that TVA can continue to expand our outreach program, distribute more vegetarian starter kits, and bring in more high profile speakers to the Annual Vegetarian Food Festival!

Most importantly, the larger our team is and the bigger our presence at the race, the louder our message that vegetarians are indeed strong, athletic and healthy. We hope you'll join us to make these dreams reality.
